Functional beauty
The Russian sighthound is a national pride, an integral part of the historical cultural heritage of Russia, a breed that combines aristocracy and refined nobility with unbridled passion and speed in pursuit. The breed, the first mention of which is found more than five hundred years ago, was created for dog hunting for a wolf, fox and hare. It was the purpose of the breed that determined its unique appearance. I see the task of the breeder in carefully preserving the functional beauty of Borzoi, that is, the exterior determined by the breed standard and those working qualities that have been bred for and preserved for centuries.
Working qualities, including speed, maneuverability, thirst for pursuit, vigilance, ... are checked in field trials, and if it is not possible to take the dog out for the trials, then at the certified competitions in coursing (pursuing a lure along a parkour on terrain) or racing (running in a circle following a mechanical lure). Incredible metamorphoses occur with a borzoi when she works in the field - her eyes light up with lively interest and excitement, strong elastic muscles become visible under thin skin, and watching a borzoi flying gallup in the field is an incomparable pleasure and adrenaline. Anyone who sees a sighthound only on the couch and on a leash while walking, in my opinion, cannot fully get to know their dog and establish with her that special bond that is formed only in the process of working together. Yes, this is additional time and effort, but this is what distinguishes the Russian borzoi from a decorative salon dog.
For ourselves, we decided that only those dogs are used in breeding, the working qualities of which have been verified by breed-specific trials.
Typical fenotype
Our dogs participate both in all-breed exhibitions of the national and international level, and in specialized breed shows. It is the assessment of breed specialist judgess that helps to highlight the priorities of breeding, to make a decision on the selection of the potential breeding dogs. The compliance of our borzois with the criteria of the standard at the highest level is confirmed by many prestigious titles, but first of all, we value participation in breed specialty shows.
Borzoi at home is an every-minute aesthetic pleasure from contemplation and communication with a living work of art. Any of her posture, turn of the head, movement is a joy for the soul and the eye. These are the borzois we want to see in the next generations of our breeding.
Temperament
Russian sighthound does not need to be trained, it is necessary to build partnership relations with her, to deserve she recognizes your authority. In this case, next to you will be a dog with a sense of dignity, a desire to bring you joy, comfortable at home and fierce at work. Our borzois are perfectly socialized, live with us in the house, travel a lot to the shows and competitions, have field leisure. With them it is interesting and convenient in any situation.
Health
Russian sighthounds are quite healthy. However, the international norm is genetic testing of breeding dogs for degenerative myelopathy (DM), a disease that appears in senior age and affects the dog's motor function. We follow this rule and test all our dogs in breeding. We also regularly check the heart of dogs participating in sports.
